Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)
"This exciting PhD involves optimisation and application of a novel online dietary assessment tool for use in older adults (aged 65+ years). Accurate determination of dietary intake is essential for nutritional science and online technology offers opportunity for significant data collection remotely.
The student will join a vibrant multi-disciplinary team of nutrition scientists and biomedical engineers who have developed an online app (eNutri) which collects and automatically analyses dietary intake data for the derivation of personalised food-based advice.
This project involves further optimisation of the eNutri app for use by older adults and includes assessment of their requirements and preferences for app usage. Focus group work and app design will be employed in collaboration with a Software Developer, and human studies will be performed to validate the app. The dietary data generated will be combined and analysed alongside similar dietary data from other countries as part of the wider €10 million EU consortium Horizon 2020 project: Food Nutrition Security Cloud (H2020 FNS-Cloud).
Training will be provided in qualitative methodologies, clinical trials, ethical approval and Good Clinical Practice with opportunities to visit collaborators within the EU.
A motivated student with a BSc in nutrition/biological sciences and interest and experience in data management and analysis is being sought.
