The main aim of the proposed project is to develop a novel scheme for the analysis of a 3D orientation distribution function (ODF) of fibers in nonwovens using non-destructive testing methods, such as, X-ray micro computed tomography (CT), and to benchmark nonwovens analytically & graphically based on their 3D fibrous structure. Voxel based data will be converted to 3D analytical function sets to represent the fibrous media analytically. This will enable modelling and remodelling of fibrous medium parametric as well as bench marking of various nonwovens.
Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering. Knowledge in - Nonlinear FE - Digital image/voxel processing - Programming (Matlab, Python, etc.) - A relevant Master's degree and / or experience in one or more of the following will be an advantage: Mechanical Engineering
