Dr A Royal  Applications accepted all year round  Competition Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

Hardened low permeability slurry walls are used to control groundwater/contamination plume flows in various engineering applications. However, concern exists over the performance of these barriers if cracks from within them over time due to loading from the surrounding ground/external loading or hydraulic gradients acting across them. The aim of the project is to undertake a numerical investigation to explore the response of these barriers under various loading and hydrogeological conditions.

Informal enquires can be sent to Dr Alexander Royal ([Email Address Removed]) or Dr Asaad Faramarzi ([Email Address Removed] ) and in the first instance should contain a covering letter and a CV.

Funding Notes

For excellent applicants (very good first degree), there is the potential for funding for Home / EU students that will cover fees at the current Home / EU student rate and a stipend. Overseas students are welcome to apply but should note that they will be required to be either completely self-funding, or to make up the difference between Home and Overseas fees.
