Dr Grace O'Malley  Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

Obesity poses a significant threat to the health of Irish children and the healthcare system as a whole and policy recommends establishing treatment for childhood obesity in primary, secondary and tertiary care. Currently, inequity exists in terms of access to care and little is known regarding the capacity of health professionals to offer treatment and care. This PhD will explore how best to translate evidence into healthcare practice and policy in order to improve access and quality of care for children and adolescents with obesity. Using a mixed-methods approach the candidate will design, develop and implement a series of studies addressing: the resources required by stakeholders to develop treatment throughout the health service; the impact of increasing access to training and education for health professionals; and the health economic factors that should be considered when improving access and delivery of obesity treatment.
