About the Project

Optically transparent and charge selective graphene electrode materials for perovskite solar cells
The University of Canterbury in collaboration with CSIRO Australia are offering two PhD scholarships in the area of electrochemistry, optically transparent electrodes, and perovskite solar cell technology and engineering.

The project aims to develop new organic films for graphene and perovskite surfaces that seamlessly integrate these materials. Our goal is to capture much more of the solar energy spectrum than in current device architectures, thus greatly increasing solar collection efficiencies. This is a multidisciplinary project where you will gain valuable skills in relevant technologies for energy research, including organic synthesis, electrochemistry, surface chemistry and electronic & vibrational spectroscopy. You will work across chemistry, physics, and engineering departments in New Zealand, and will spend approximately 6 months over the course of the project at the CSIRO research facility.

Funding Notes

The scholarship is available from 1 March 2020 and offers a non-taxable living allowance of $NZ 27,500 p.a. plus PhD tuition fees for 3 years. It is essential that the successful applicants have a strong background in chemistry, and have motivation and enthusiasm to undertake experimental work involving both wet chemistry, electrochemistry and spectroscopy. Applicants should have a BSc (Hons), MSc or equivalent degree in physical chemistry or chemical engineering.

References

Applicants should apply to Dr. Paula Brooksby at paula.brooksby@canterbury.ac.nz or Dr Noel Duffy at Noel.Duffy@csiro.au. When applying please include a cover letter stating your research interests, a full Curriculum Vitae, your University transcript (i.e. list of grades), the contact details of two academic referees, and a statement of when you could begin your PhD research. We are also happy to answer any general enquiries you may have.
