Prof Jon Sperry  Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

The field of chemical synthesis is under constant pressure to produce molecules in a timely, economical and sustainable fashion. In this project we will demonstrate that valuable heterocyclic molecules can be efficiently synthesized in an environmentally friendly manner by simply using electric current. These electrochemical synthetic procedures are reagent-free and generate a negligible waste-stream, thus providing a valuable contribution to the fledgling field of sustainable chemical synthesis. It is anticipated the new electrochemical methods developed in this project will encourage the uptake of this underused technique in both academia and industry, particularly the pharmaceutical and agrochemical sectors.

Funding Notes

Suitable applicants will typically have a BSc Honours degree or Masters degree in Chemistry or related subject.

A full scholarship is provided for 3.5 years. All tuition fees are also covered
