Pauline Catena Manuscripts

As part of a major research project on the Old Latin versions of the earliest commentaries on the Apostle Paul we are interested in recruiting a doctoral researcher to investigate manuscripts of the epistles in Greek which include a commentary pieced together from early Christian authors ("catena manuscripts"). The expectation is that the candidate will produce an edition of at least one of the catenae, with particular attention to its biblical text. The project is based in ITSEE, the Institute for Textual Scholarship and Electronic Editing, in the School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion at the University of Birmingham.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent language skills in biblical Greek. Experience of working with manuscripts would be beneficial. It will be an advantage if a candidate has prior research experience and has completed (or is in the process of completing) a Master's degree in a related area.

The start date will be in the autumn of 2013; this is a full-time project of 3 years' duration. It is expected that a bursary will be available which will contribute towards living expenses, but candidates may have to pay their own fees. The exact amount of the bursary remains to be confirmed and candidates may also wish to apply for the University of Birmingham's AHRC funding (see below, deadline 28.1.13).
