About the Project

The emergence of peer specialist in suicide prevention is an emerging area of investigation. Evidence of contemporary practice approaches to working with individuals who are contemplating taking their own life or who have made an attempt on their life suggests, in the main, to be unsuccessful. New approaches are now required in addressing such a global issue of concern. One proposed approach is the involvement of peer specialist working in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in providing crisis support and follow-up. This study explores the goals, strategies, logistics and evaluation processes required to provide a peer specialist suicide crisis support service in emergency departments of public and private health care services.
