Full Project Detail

There is limited availability of land for developing new infrastructure, resulting in plans to construct on sites previously used to landfill waste materials. Removal of this waste is often not financially viable and engineering solutions are required. This project will investigate innovative ground improvement techniques to control waste settlements and ensure adequate shear strength when constructing on landfills. Activities will include supporting a large-scale field trial and analysing measured behaviour to inform performance of options.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. Applicants with a background in civil engineering or geotechnical engineering are particularly welcomed. A relevant master’s degree and/or employment experience will be an advantage.
