Digital innovation with computational tools has transformed the traditional way of architectural façade design in early building design stage and later construction process. It has become popular in the construction of high performing buildings and cost savings due to increasing awareness in sustainability. The student’s goal will be to explore how a holistic approach combing performative design and building performance modeling can be used to enhance work flow and optimize the process involved in the advanced building façade design. The process explores various opportunities and possibilities from thermal envelope performance simulation to parametric architectural façade design with BIM tool – Revit Dynamo, from parametric design of the photovoltaic façade to digital fabrication of the physical prototype with 3D printing, from aerodynamic testing of physical prototype in wind tunnel to topology optimization of the physical prototype with ANSYS computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Revit.
Students who are successful in being awarded this scholarship are expected to be based at the Heriot-Watt Dubai campus.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees and provide an annual stipend of approximately £15,009 for the 36 month duration of the project and is available to applicants from the UK, EU and overseas.
