pH and Ion Transport in Pancreatic Cancer

A fellowship position is available for a period of 3 years, tenable at the University of Oxford, Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (Sherrington Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT), on a project entitled pH and Ion Transport in Pancreatic Cancer. The successful candidate will undertake a DPhil at the University of Oxford while employed by the University on the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network. They will be expected to undertake a programme of research under the supervision of the PI and senior researchers in the group in Oxford, and partners across the Consortium; manage their research activities, including multi-tasking, and meet deadlines; contribute ideas for experiments and attend lab meetings; participate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles; present papers and posters to the scientific community; and act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques.
Candidates must hold a BSc or MSc or equivalent in a relevant area of life science, and be accepted by the University of Oxford as a DPhil student and continue to be a registered student for the duration of the employment contract. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate experience in experimental work involving tissue culture techniques, applied to any type of biological material; appreciation of the merits and use of at least one of the following techniques: (i) microscopy, (ii) protein biochemistry, (iii) genetic modifications of cells; and possess knowledge of a relevant field of biology at advanced level, such as cellular physiology, cell molecular biology, metabolism, genetics.
Under the terms of the EC funding, which aims to promote mobility within the research community, to be eligible for the post you must not have been resident in the UK for more than a total of 12 months in the past 3 years. Persons who have obtained a doctorate or had more than 4 years full time research experience are ineligible. The start date is subject to discussion; the latest possible date is 1 October 2019.
