The University of Stavanger invites applicants for a Ph.D fellowship/postdoctoral fellowship to the project "Inflammatory bowel disease and the intestinal eukaryome" at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Chemistry, Bioscience and Environmental Technology. The position is vacant from 01.01.2020.
The Faculty of Science and Technology has been assigned strategic recruitment positions related to medical initiatives. The position will strenghten the medical focus at the university in collaboration with Stavanger University Hospital, as part of the expansion of the medical sciences at the UiS.
The PhD Research Fellow position is an educational position which shall primarily provide promising researchers the opportunity for professional development, and whose aim is to complete research education up to doctorate level. The position is financed for three years in a 100% research position, or four years with 75% research training and 25 % compulsory work, or in a part-time course with at least 50% research training per year. This will be clarified in the recruitment process.
The Postdoctoral Fellow position is a career position to further strengthen research after completing a PhD in order to qualify for a top position within academia. The position is financed for two years in 100% position, or up to four years in a 50% position and may include obligations related to teaching and supervision (50%). This will be clarified in the recruitment process.
The position is primary intended for applicants with a medical or biological university degree. Applicants with medical education are especially encouraged to apply.
For employment as PhD Research fellow and to be eligible for admission to the doctoral programmes at the University of Stavanger, we normally require a five-year master's degree. The grade for your master’s thesis and the weighted average grade of your master’s degree must individually be equivalent to or better than a B grade. Candidates with a medical university degree without letter grades will be admitted after special assessment.
We are looking for applicants with experience in relevant fields such as molecular parasitology, bioinformatics or molecular microbiology, preferably acquired recently as this is a fast moving field; or possess corresponding qualifications that could provide a basis for successfully completing a doctorate.
For employment as a Postdoctoral fellow: PhD with a specialisation in intestinal microbiology, molecular biology and bioinformatics is preferred, but applicants specialising in related areas will also be considered.
The PhD must be completed no later than at the date of deadline for applications.
