Project Description

One PhD scholarship ($27,596.00 per year, 3.5 years duration) is available for the ARC funded project “Deconstructing molecular self-assembly by advanced mass spectrometry” with research leader Dr. Nicole J. Rijs based at School of Chemistry, UNSW Sydney, Kensington Campus

Aiming to develop techniques for intercepting critical intermediates in molecular self-assembly reactions, the project will deploy combinatorial robotics, mass spectrometry and high-resolution ion-mobility spectrometry to structurally interrogate chemical reactions and molecular assemblies. Unique skills gained will include computational approaches and advanced characterisation techniques which are highly sought after in industry. The project involves potential for international and interstate collaborations and travel, and will be based in state-of-the-art purpose built laboratories opened in June 2019 (UNSW’s Science and Engineering Building (SEB) precinct).

Applicants must possess an academic qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with Honours or Masters in chemistry, or a related discipline (e.g. materials science, biochemistry, physics) to apply. Please express interest by providing a cover letter, CV, academic transcript and 1 potential reference by midnight Monday the 4th of October, 2019.

Funding Notes

Open to international students, subject to tuition fee waiver scholarships (TFS) which will be allocated by UNSW.

TFS applicants must have a first class BSc Honours degree, or equivalent. Applicants should check their eligibility, here: View Website and ensure they met UNSW English-language requirements here: View Website
