The Research Unit “Signaling and Translation” investigates how key cellular signaling pathways control health and disease. We are bridging the gap between basic science and clinical innovations by providing direct access to technologies and expertise that will foster translation of new discoveries into pioneering targeting strategies. Our goal is to unravel novel biological pathways and molecular mechanisms that control physiological and disease-related cellular processes to identify novel targets and design innovative therapeutic concepts.

Your tasks

  • Establishment and analyses of cellular models to study aberrant activation of immune cell signaling; development of strategies for pharmacological interventions
  • Establish animal models and to study activation of immune cell signaling pathways in conditional mouse models
  • Phenotypic and functional analyses of immune homeostasis and activation in the mouse models
  • The project will comprise handling of mice (injections, taking blood samples, dissection and others) as well as participation in the planning of experiments and employing best-practice animal experimentation

 Your profile

  • Applicants must hold a master's degree in biology, biochemistry or a related faculty that qualifies the candidate to enroll as PhD student (Dr. rer. nat.) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Faculty of Biology
  • Knowledge and experience in the fields of genetics, immunology, molecular biology and cell signaling pathways.
  • A strong interest in doing pioneering immunological research with mice

Desirable qualifications

  • Very good communication and writing skills in English are expected, good communication skills in German for animal welfare permissions and documentation will be helpful
  • We are seeking outstanding highly motivated young researchers with a drive to pursue an academic career for our interdisciplinary research team

This position provides the opportunity for you to build specialist knowledge whilst developing key professional experience, both of which will help you to make strides in your scientific career.

Remuneration and social security benefits are based on the German Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees at Federal Level (EG 13 50 % TV EntgO Bund). In addition, there is also the possibility of receiving an allowance if the applicable conditions are met. The position has an (initial) fixed term of three years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
