About the Project
We’re looking for the brightest maths, science and engineering graduates to join our next cohort in the Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Metallic Systems. Our doctoral projects address underpinning science and engineering materials research in collaboration with both large and small scale industry partners in the aerospace, nuclear, automotive and digital sectors.
We offer something different. Our CDT was established in 2009 with a 4-year programme to give you the opportunity to gain a PhD which reflects real-world industry challenges, with international travel, state-of-the-art training in the manufacture of metallic materials and digital technologies for industry 4.0. We also provide a bespoke professional skills programme to fast-track your graduate career in the metallics sector.
Join a cohort of 19 students to undertake a world-leading combination of training activities and doctoral research across four world-leading partner universities .
This PhD position will be based at Dublin City University starting in September 2021.
In this project, the processing of different metals will be examined in order to understand the incremental effect of the various alloying elements, cooling rate and heat treatments on the final microstructure and ultimately on the resulting part properties. This project will be undertaken based on the technical requirements of a high value add commercial product with a view to generating the next level of related state of the art materials understanding and be in a position to take commercial advantage of the knowledge opportunity provided from the project.
Applications now open for September 2021 entry.
