About the Project

Fully Funded Bristol-PhD in Engineering Mathematics at the BEST Engineering School in the UK.

This PhD aims to revolutionise the field of Soft-Robotics by developing the next generation of Artificial Muscles Cells that are able to self-adapt and perform complex behaviour unsupervised. This project draws its inspiration from molecular motors and cellular contractions of live and active tissues and fibres found in nature. The research will take place in the internationally renowned Bristol Robotics Laboratory and will constructively combine Engineering Mathematics, Active Soft-Materials and Cellular Biology. This truly interdisciplinary project will merge soft-robotics experiments, mathematical modelling and numerical simulations, blending distinct strands of physics, engineering, robotics and biology. We are looking for talented students with enthusiasm for multi-disciplinary, theoretical and/or experimental research. The PhD program is flexible, and students can choose among an experimental-only, theoretical-only, or interdisciplinary research routes.
