Fully Funded PhD in Engineering Mathematics at the top Engineering School in the UK
This PhD aims to revolutionise “SoftRobotics” by constructively combining engineering mathematics, cellular biology and active soft-matter to create the first generation of macroscopic robotic “cells" that are able to self-adapt and perform complex tasks unsupervised, very much like cells in our body. This truly interdisciplinary project will merge experimentation, mathematical modelling and simulation, physics, engineering, robotics and biology. We are looking for students with enthusiasm for theoretical and experimental research.

Applicants First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degree. The candidate needs to meet the standard RCUK residency requirements (https://epsrc.ukri.org/skills/students/help/eligibility/): either home UK students, or EC nationals who have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to starting the PhD (and if the 3 years have been spent in higher education, then they have to have been resident in the EEA or Switzerland immediately before this).
Applicant’s degree: Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related subjects.
Covers tuition fees, tax-free stipend of £14,777 per year plus a travel/consumables budget.
