About the Project
Suitably qualified and highly motivated candidates are invited to apply for a fully-funded 3.5 year PhD studentship (EPSRC DTA) which will commence on 1st October 2019 under the direction of Professor Stephen Clark in the School of Chemistry at the University of Glasgow.
The PhD research project will concern the development of new synthetic methodology for the rapid construction of fused polycyclic systems and its application to the efficient total synthesis of bioactive, structurally complex marine natural products.
The ideal candidate will hold (or expect to be awarded) a 1st Class or Upper 2nd Class MSci, MChem or BSc degree and will have significant experience in practical synthetic organic chemistry. The student will be required to undertake complex synthetic sequences involving air- and / or moisture-sensitive reagents and unstable synthetic intermediates, and will be expected to possess excellent laboratory skills, good problem-solving abilities and the ability to interpret spectroscopic data.
Further information about ongoing research projects in the Clark research group can be found on the following web page: http://www.chem.gla.ac.uk/staff/stephenc/
