Prof Vangelis Harmandaris
Applications accepted all year round
About the Project
The Modelling and Simulation for Engineering Applications (SimEA) WIDENING Horizon 2020 project is accepting applications for the academic year 2020-2021.
SimEA offers 3 fully-funded PhD studentships to undertake research projects at the interface of materials science, data analytics and engineering. It entails the modelling and simulation of complex systems in condensed matter, through the development of modern tools and methodologies, from high-performance computing, multi-scale modelling, data science and artificial intelligence. All research projects concern systems/materials of great scientific and technological interest, such as nanocomposites, polymers, graphene-based nanostructured materials, proteins and biomolecular systems.
The students will become members of the interdisciplinary team of the ERA Chair holder, Prof. Vangelis Harmandaris and will also have opportunities to participate in research and innovation activities undertaken with the industrial sector.
The PhD program is designed to educate future researchers in mathematical modelling, computational methods, and data analytics methodologies, needed to solve complex scientific and engineering problems, as well as in the management, mining and visualization of complex data sets. Students will be equipped with the necessary competencies and skills to become equally adept to assume roles in academic and industrial settings.
For applying please use our online application system at: https://gs.cyi.ac.cy/. In order to be considered for the position, you must indicate in the online application for admission (1) in Step 2, in the Scholarship or Financial Aid field that you are interested in this position by selecting the option: Specific PhD Project GS-COS-SimEA-20-1. (2) You must enter the Project Code in the next field. (3) You should also mention the project name and code in the statement of intent.
Funding Notes
Each studentship includes the tuition fees, a monthly stipend and a generous travel budget for conferences and training events. This project has received funding from the European Union’ s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 810660.
