About the Project
The studentship will focus on the future of network transport protocols, including extensions to QUIC to support real-time media, NAT traversal, discovery and effective use of peer-to-peer data connections, and in the evaluation of the security and effectiveness of such mechanisms.
The studentship is part of a larger project developing scalable, asynchronous, distributed programming models for edge computation, state synchronisation, and node management; and improving network transport protocols and their APIs to help make effective use of network resources. By leveraging these innovations, we aim to prototype next generation edge management tools to simplify operation of large-scale edge compute infrastructure, as found in 5G networks, to support emerging low-latency applications and services.
The studentship will be based in Glasgow, but will work closely with researchers at Rakuten Mobile in Tokyo, Japan.
