About the Project

The School of Engineering of the University of Glasgow is seeking a highly motivated graduate to undertake an exciting 3.5-year PhD project entitled

Light-matter Control of Cavity Quantum Metamaterials at Nanoscale’ under the supervision of Dr Kaveh Delfanazari.

Our team has a strong track record in the development of cryogenic chip-scale coherent quantum light sources, modulators, plasmonic nano-antennas, slow light devices and sensors in integrated circuits operating from microwaves to mm-waves, terahertz and far/near-infrared, based on quantum nano- and meta-materials such as superconductors, semiconductor one-dimensional or two-dimensional electron systems, van der Waals, graphene, and topological materials. Photonics metamaterials offer excellent opportunities to enhance light-matter interactions, and the realization of the ultrastrong coupling between plasma waves and photons in the subwavelength micro and nanocavity arrays is of interest for manipulating the cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED), ultrahigh-resolution sensing and imaging, and quantum information processing.

The aim of this PhD studentship is to engineer cavity quantum metamaterials (from design to modelling, nanofabrication and characterization at room- and cryogenic- temperatures) and their integration with cryogenic quantum circuits for quantum information processing.

This fully funded PhD studentship award aims to strengthen the research collaborations with our A*STAR (Singapore) partners and the student must spend between 1 and 2 years in Singapore.

Application for this scholarship is made by using the online system at the following link:

https://www.gla.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/electronicsnanoscale/

Please note that this application is to gain admission to our PGR programme, and an offer of admission may be issued before a decision on this Scholarship is made. Candidates applying for this Scholarship will most likely have an interview/discussion with the supervisor before any decision is made.

The students should have excellent academic records. Informal enquires are very welcome and should be sent to Dr. Kaveh Delfanazari via email ([Email Address Removed]). Please submit a full CV together with a copy of your BEng/MSc degrees, and a cover letter describing how you meet the requirements.
