PhD candidates with a passion for materials science, engineering, physics and/or chemistry, applied to the fields of energy and the environment, should apply. The project includes development of advanced glass and glass-ceramic materials; advanced spectroscopy of these new materials using multiple techniques; and multiple applications, including new host materials for safe immobilisation of radioactive and toxic wastes.
The PhD project is available in this important, topical and rewarding field of research and will include:
· Radioactive and toxic waste immobilisation - novel host materials and processes. These include glass, glass-ceramic and ceramic development as host materials for these dangerous wastes
Students will join Prof. Bingham's large and vibrant research group within MERI, and will have the opportunity to work in an enjoyable multi-disciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art analytical and research equipment. Students will also be supported in their personal and professional development, and will be given opportunities to present results at conferences and engage in external links with the group's UK, European and global collaborators and partners.
