PhD in the Advanced Metallic Systems Centre for Doctoral Training

   Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT)

, , Prof D Brabazon  Wednesday, May 31, 2023  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

The EPSRC and SFI Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced

Metallic Systems (AMSCDT), offers something different.

This PhD programme provide students with the opportunity to carry out research on addressing technical challenges in the processing and application of metallic materials. Examples include working on the fabrication of medical devices, as well as metallics components used in the harvesting of renewable energy . The PhD research projects all involve some degree of collaboration with industry partners. This collaboration helps both in terms of specialist technical input, as well as in many cases providing practical applications for the evaluation of research project outputs. As part of the doctoral program the successful applicants will obtain training in metallurgy, along with the use of digital tools such as machine learning. In addition training will be provided in innovation, team working and presentation skills. This training is provided in the UK (Manchester and Sheffield), as well as in Ireland, while the research projects will be carried out at either Dublin College University or University College Dublin.

Each year 5 PhD students are recruited under this program and to-date they have come from a range of science and engineering backgrounds. No experience in working with metallic materials is required as this training will be provided.
