Dr Angela Feechan  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

Septoria tritici blotch (STB) is responsible for significant yield losses of wheat in Ireland and North-Western Europe. STB is caused by Zymoseptoria tritici a fungal pathogen which is within the Dothideomycete family. Future strategies will be important to control this pathogen due to the occurrence of fungicide resistance and loss of fungicides via legislation.

This research will identify Z. tritici secreted proteins that are involved during the infection of wheat and which interact with wheat host proteins. The project will use transcriptomics, molecular, and protein biochemistry based techniques.
