About the Project

Highly assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) technology makes feasible the opportunity for remote-operation of robots in real time, intuitively, and with the ability for tactile precision control at a distance. The types of robots and their applications are broad and may include indoor (house/factory/hospital) Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) used for movement of goods/patients/supplies, Air and Sea Drones for environmental monitoring and/or exploration, Automated Vehicles and Trucks for National Distribution and Logistics

WMG, in partnership with the UK based R&D team of Spirent Communications (https://www.spirent.com/) are offering a rare opportunity to someone with a to be part next generation technology development with a fully funded PhD Scholarship.

We are actively seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team with the following:

  • An undergraduate (BEng, MEng) and/or postgraduate masters qualification (MSc) in a science and technology field. e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, etc.
  • An understanding and/or experience in either, or a combination of: embedded systems, sensor technologies, communications systems, resilient systems, electronic systems, algorithm design and/or systems engineering. This list is neither exhaustive, or required, but we would hope the candidate could provide a breakdown of their degree by module and/or interests to provide us with a general picture of their knowledge and experience.
  • Is keen to work alongside researchers and engineers from within Spirent both at the WMG, and at their UK offices.
  • A passion and enthusiasm to challenge the state of the art in a rapidly changing technology space!

Essential and desirable criteria

Prospective applicants are expected to have a minimum 2.1 undergraduate (BEng, MEng, BSc, MSci) and/or postgraduate masters’ qualification (MSc) with 65% or above.

An understanding and/or experience in either, or a combination of: embedded systems, sensor technologies, communications systems, resilient systems, electronic systems, algorithm design and/or systems engineering.
