About the Project

A PhD Position focusing on molecular and network mechanisms-derived targeted intervention in neonatal genetic epilepsies is available at the Section for Translational Epilepsy Research, Institute of Neuropathology, University Bonn Medical School, Germany.

The PhD position is in a project of the Research Unit FOR-2715 ‘Epileptogenesis of genetic epilepsies’ supported by the German Federal Research Council (DFG). The position is limited to three years.

The focus of the will be on the use of CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Palindromic Repeats) activation and interference/inhibition systems (CRISPRa/i) to interfere with mechanisms of epileptogenesis in gain- as well as loss-of-function models of genetic epilepsies (PMID: 35069110). This research will apply a broad array of methods ranging from viral transgenics, cell biological, molecular, biochemical, histological as well as in-vivo electroencephalographic approaches.

The ideal candidate will be an ambitious, highly motivated, team-oriented graduate student with a strong interest in neurobiology. Prior research experience with animal experimentation, microscopy, or electrophysiology techniques is advantageous. Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Neuroscience, Biological Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Candidates should also demonstrate aptitude in written and spoken English.

Interested candidates should send curriculum vitae, letter of motivation indicating starting date, short description of past lab experience, copies of university degree(s) with academic records, contact information and at least two reference letters (or the referee’s contact info) as a single PDF file.

Salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L E13 (65%). The University Bonn is a provider of equal opportunity in compliance with the German disability laws.
