PhD position in antiviral immunity and vaccinology (m/f/d) Abteilung für Klinische Pharmakologie

Scope of duties

  • The group offers an exciting scientific environment for clinically relevant topics in antiviral immunity, immunotherapy of cancer and primary immunodeficiencies. The PhD project will use the yellow fever vaccine virus as a model to work on the mechanisms of virus detection by the innate immune system, the influence of genetic and non-genetic factors on interindividual variation in antiviral Immunity and the effectivity of viral vaccines. The PhD project is embedded in the EU-funded (Horizon 2020) collaborative research network Yellow4FLAVI, the collaborative research center of the DFG ”Nucleic acid immunity“ (www.trr237.uni-muenchen.de/index.html), and the PhD training program i-Target 2.0
  • In the division of clinical pharmacology (Director: Prof. S. Endres; www.lmuklinikum.de/pharmakologie) a team of highly motivated MD and PhD students, physicians and postdocs work on an internationally competitive level on topics concerning innate, anti-viral and tumor immunology (Briukhovetska et al. Immunity 2023, Boehmer et al. Sci Immunol 2021, Linder et al. Leukemia 2021; Koenig et al. J Exp Med 2020).

Our requirements

  • Students of biology, biochemistry or a similar field of study with an excellent academic background interested to complete a doctoral degree (PhD; MMRS) at the Ludwig-Maximilians University.
  • Applicants are required to have graduated above average at a Master level or equivalent by the time of their application.
  • He/she should have a background in cell biology, virology, immunology or systems biology with experimental experience in protein biochemistry, immunomonitoring and/or molecular biology.
  • The applicant should be fluent in German or English.

Our offer

  • Starting as soon as possible, we offer a position for a PhD student with secured funding for three years under supervision of Prof. Simon Rothenfusser.
  • Besides the PhD thesis the association to the graduate-program i-Target 2.0 involves a highly structured training program with weekly seminars, lectures given by internationally recognized speakers, hands-on methods courses, annual research retreats as well as soft skill seminars.

  • The remuneration is based on the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Länder (TV-L) including all allowances customary in the public sector.
