About the Project

The position is limited to 3 years. With option of further extension. The salary is paid according to the German TV-L system (the salary agreement for public service employees).

 The group of PD Dr. Ashraf Rangrez is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to fill the position of a DFG-funded project focusing on E3 Ubiquitin Ligases in the heart. Using state-of-the-art experimental approaches and in vitro/in vivo models, our aim is to understand the function of E3 Ubiquitin ligases in cardiac (patho)physiology. Our research team is well experienced in all used methods an clinical models. The group is embedded into an excellent research environment from the department of cardiology with strong collaboration with other research insitutes in Heidelberg. You fit to us if you want to work in a world-class research environment with state-of-the-art equipment and access to comprehensive research facilites. You have the ability to work independently, but also show a strong team spirit.

 Tasks and responsibilities

·      To validate proteomics findings and understand its functional relevance

·      To identify the transcriptional effects by chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing (ChIP-Seq) and RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq)

·      To study the cardiac-restricted loss-of-function effects in a conditional knockout mouse

 Prerequisites

·      Masters in Cell Biology / Molecular Biology / Life Sciences/Biochemistry / related subjects

·      A prior hands on experience with routine molecular / cell biology techniques

·      Excellent communication and organizational skills with good knowledge of English language

·      Willingness to work on small animal models (mice, rats), prior experience will be a plus
