This position is a fixed term, full time (100 %) position for 3 years within the field of exercise physiology and metabolism. We seek a talented and enthusiastic person with experience in medicine, exercise physiology and/or nutrition.
EXCAR research group aims to develop exercise training strategies to prevent lifestyle-related diseases, with a special focus on exercise as medicine in order to improve fertility and pregnancy outcomes. The EXCAR research group has strong collaboration with clinicians at St. Olav’s University Hospital. Both NTNU and St. Olav’s Hospital have excellent infrastructures for clinical and experimental research with state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories. Duties of the position
In this project, we will investigate the effects and feasibility of novel diet-exercise strategies that can prevent obesity and insulin resistance in reproductive-aged women. The PhD candidate will work in close collaboration with other researchers in the EXCAR group and NTNU, clinicians at St.Olavs Hospital, as well as international collaborators. The project includes three clinical studies, of which two are randomized controlled trials (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04019860 and NCT03803072) and one interventional study (NCT04288479).
Required selection criteria
The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is that you have completed a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you are unable to meet these criteria you may be considered only if you can document that you are particularly suitable for education leading to a PhD degree.
• A master’s degree or an equivalent education in a relevant field such as exercise physiology, biology, molecular biology, nutrition, or a medical degree. Students in their final stage of completing their degree are also invited to apply.
• Experience in quantitative statistical analysis and academic writing
• A strong academic record with a weighted average grade of at least B from master’s or equivalent education, in accordance with NTNU’s grading system •
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): grade A or B
