Prof Antonio Giangreco, Prof Farah Kodeih, Prof Wim van Lent  Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

IÉSEG School of Management, in conjunction with Lille Economics and Management (LEM UMR CNRS 9221), invites applications for a Ph.D. position in Organization Theory.

In particular, we are seeking to recruit a Ph.D. candidate with an interest in issues related to social exclusion and marginalization – issues that have received increasing academic and societal attention in recent years. Ideally, the doctoral student would be interested in studying how organizational actions contribute to or alleviate issues such as poverty, inequality, discrimination, or displacement.

The chosen candidate has significant freedom in defining the topic of the thesis, but some potential topics include the following:

  • The foundations of exploitative and oppressive systems and stakeholder marginalization.
  • The role that not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises, or NGOs play in tackling societal challenges.
  • Different guises of exploitation and marginalization (e.g., in different cultural, geographical, or temporal settings).
  • Organizational efforts to mitigate social exclusion (e.g., inclusive innovation; providing access to resources, services, tools and networks).
  • Organizational initiatives aimed at fostering resilience in adverse contexts (e.g., post-conflict, displacement, severe oppression).
  • Ways in which organizational action might fall short, generating (unintended) harmful consequences that could exacerbate exclusion or marginalization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Ph.D. position is affiliated to the Management and Society Department of IÉSEG School of Management. The selected applicant will be working under the supervision of Dr. Antonio Giangreco and will be co-supervised by Dr. Farah Kodeih and Dr. Wim Van Lent. They will be based in Paris, on the campus of IÉSEG School of Management.

The dissertation work is expected to commence in January 2022. Gross salary will be competitive with other European research and academic institutions. Furthermore, the Ph.D. candidate will get all the means and support to produce high-quality research publishable in international peer-reviewed journals. The candidate should aim to obtain the degree within 3 years. The purpose of the position is to enable entry to a successful academic career in high-ranking universities in Europe and beyond.

PLEASE NOTE: Given its status, IÉSEG School of Management has no doctoral school. The selected candidate will be officially enrolled at LEM, Université de Lille and will eventually receive a degree from Université de Lille. (guidance will be provided in that respect).
