PhD-position in Virology

Project Description

At the Institute for Virology and Immunology of the University of Wuerzburg, Germany there is a

PhD-position in Virology

within the EU-funded research project „Herpesvirus Effectors of RNA synthesis, Processing, Export and Stability (HERPES)“ to be filled at the next possible timepoint.

The position is initially set for one year (but is expected to be extended for 2-4 more years). The salary is according to TV-L 13, 65%.

The project involves a broad spectrum of virological and molecular-biological methods to functionally characterize novel RNA-based regulatory mechanisms in lytic herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) infection. Work will involve a broad spectrum of virological, molecularbiological and systemsbiological assays (reverse genetics techniques, 4sU-tagging, SLAM-Seq, ribosome profiling, ChIP-seq, single cell RNA-sequencing).

The successful candidate needs to fulfil the following requirements:
• A completed university degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or bioinformatics
• Willingness to learn highly sophisticated molecular biologial techniques
• Interest to work in a highly collaborative team of researchers.
