About the Project

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship commencing in September 2013.

The successful candidate will be based in the Research Group in Breast Health in the Department of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Portsmouth and will conduct research examining the influence of an intervention programme on the severity and impact of breast pain in symptomatic women. Approaches to this research questions will consist of intervention studies, in combination with various fundamental data collection and analysis techniques. Data collection and analysis will employ a range of research techniques to examine health and well being outcomes associated with the intervention. The research will use the Department’s specialised Motion Capture Laboratory and the expertise of staff within the group.

The successful candidate will have a 2.1 or first class honours degree and preferably a Master's degree in a relevant discipline. Additional experience in a laboratory environment will be an advantage, as would experience in breast health or breast biomechanics research. The research work will be lead by Dr Joanna Scurr in collaboration with Dr Jenny White within the Department of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Portsmouth as well as staff from collaborating medical/academic institutions.

Funding Notes

The studentship provides a stipend of £13,726 per annum plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate for three years. This position is only open to Home/EU applicants.
