Project Description

The Sheffield Biomedical Robotics Laboratory at the University of Sheffield within the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering invites applications for a PhD Scholarship in Medical and Surgical Robotics from talented and excellent graduates.

Our group’s mission is to develop bionic and biomedical robots that support sustained autonomous operation for long-term adaptive healthcare. We have expertise in design, fabrication, control and evaluation of these biomedical robots in pre-clinical trials.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an internationally leading research group and conduct medical robotics research in an interdisciplinary project involving engineers, scientists and medical staff.

Candidates should have a background in the following fields: either Mechanical Engineering (mechanism designs, actuators, fabrication, mechanics modeling), Electrical Engineering (sensors, remote communication, microcontrollers, circuit design), Material Engineering (materials modelling, characterization and fabrication, biomaterials), Control (bio-machine interaction, optimization, estimation), Mechatronics or Robotics, or a related field.

Funding Notes

The position is funded for 3.5 years. The scholarship will pay the Research Council UK (RCUK) fees at the EU/UK level and stipend for up to 3.5 years and a Research Training and Support Grant (RTSG) of £1000 per annum. Nationality and residency eligibility are according to EPSRC requirements (View Website).
