Helmholtz Zentrum München is a research center with the mission to dis cover personalized medical solutions for the prevention and therapy of environ mentally triggered diseases and promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.
The Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (Helmholtz-Institut für Metabolismus-, Adipositas- und Gefäßforschung, HI-MAG) at the University of Leipzig aims at uncovering the molecular underpinnings of adipose tissue dysfunction to enable precision therapies for obesity and its comorbidities, like metabolic and vascular disturbances, using a clinical translational approach. The institute is part of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center and closely linked to the metabolic research activities of the Faculty of Medicine Leipzig.
The newly founded Young Investigator Group "Diet-Induced Metabolic Alterations" headed by Dr. Alexander Jais is looking for a highly motivated PhD Student (f/m/x) in Immuno-Metabolism & Obesity Research at the YIG "Diet-Induced Metabolic Alterations"
Your mission
In the YIG "Diet-Induced Metabolic Alterations", we use different gene tic mouse models to decipher the molecular and genetic underpinnings of obesity development. The primary goal of the project is to identify key determinants that promote metabolic health and to validate newly discovered biomarkers that alter both food intake and glucose homeostasis. Our methodology includes for example the isolation of primary cells from adipose tissue, FACS and histological analyses, ex vivo analyses of adipose tissue resident cells and gene / protein expression analyses as well as extensive metabolic pheno‐typing of genetic mouse models (e.g.: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5749244/)
Your qualification
- Exceptional students holding a Master’s degree in a relevant field and a strong interest in obesity research, endocrinology and molecular biology
- Strong background in molecular and cellular biology as well as hands-on knowledge of immune cell isolation and in vitro culture methods
- Experience in working with mouse models
- Outstanding motivation to participate in a competitive research program
- Excellent English language proficiency, both written and spoken
What we offer you
