About This PhD Project

Project Description

The Kramann Laboratory at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Germany, is looking for a highly motivated and team oriented PhD Student (m/f/d) for a PhD thesis (Dr. rer. nat. or Dr. rer. medic.). The University is a vibrant place where excellent research is being conducted and an official Excellence University of Germany. At the University's institutes, a large number of international doctoral students, postdocs and researchers are active in teaching and research. Our welcome services are targeted towards professors, visiting researchers, post docs, and doctoral candidates coming to RWTH Aachen from abroad. Our welcome center for international researches offers advice and support during preparations for and throughout the stay and also helps with all non-academic questions about the stay in Aachen ( The position will be funded according to German public service salary scale level TV-L 13 (50%, currently 19.25 hours/week). The position is starting as soon as possible. Its duration is initially limited to three years with the possibility for extension.

Your Tasks

The candidate will work on an own project and also contribute to ongoing projects in the lab aimed to gain new insights in mechanism of chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. The candidate will perform a project at the forefront of single cell genomics research including scRNA, scATAC and spatial transcriptomics in human tissue specimen and state of the art transgenic mouse models. Also techniques such as flow cytometry, immunostainings and in vitro assays are used. For more information about our team and recent work see

Required Skills
• Good knowledge of common lab techniques
• Fluent English skills
• General understanding of scientific principles as well as good computer skills
• Excellent teamwork skills
• Willingness to acquire new lab skills
• Willingness to participate in experiments with rodents is mandatory
• Willingness to work with material of human and/or animal origin
• Experience in molecular biology and cell culture modelling (Western blotting, qPCR, ELISA and/or immunostaining) is preferred
• Experience in confocal and fluorescent microscopy as well as flow cytometry is preferred
• Bioinformatics skills
