About the Project
The Surrey’s Automotive Engineering Research Group (AERG) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences (MES), is offering a PhD scholarship, funded by ESPRC and Jaguar Land Rover. The funding will cover home fees and normal EPSRC stipend (currently £14000/year). All students may apply for this research project, but the full funding is guaranteed for UK and EU students. The start date of the project is October 2016.
The PhD research activity is related to development of Cloud-based Fault-Tolerant Vehicle States Estimation and Control Systems using Data Fusion of On-board Vehicle Sensors and External Digital Sources.
Surrey’s Automotive Engineering Research Group (AERG) has a diverse portfolio of nationally and internationally funded research projects in collaboration with well-respected European automotive companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Skoda, Fiat and McLaren. AERG aims to provide world class technical research in the following key areas: autonomous vehicles, intelligent vehicles, vehicles dynamics and control, vehicle state estimation and prediction. At departmental level, the Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences offers a collaborative and successful research environment.
Applicant criteria
Applicants have to satisfy the standard university eligibility criteria and should have a good Master’s degree (equivalent of first-class distinction). Background in area of vehicle state estimation and control is asset. Experience with IPG CarMaker, C++, and dSPACE would also be a plus.
