About the Project

The University of Greenwich wishes to appoint a high-calibre PhD researcher to carry out research in design for manufacturing, automation and robotics in collaboration with industry. The aim of this research is to develop a novel automation and robotic technologies for the manufacture of high value and robust products in smart manufacturing systems. The PhD researcher will carry out investigation into industrial problem and requirements, and identify or redesign features that can be manufactured, assembled and inspected automatically using advanced technologies including robotics, digital, AI, machine learning and image processing.

 We are looking for candidates to apply with a background in manufacturing engineering, systems, operations, or related disciplines, with strong knowledge and skills in Information and Communication Technologies. Candidates should have or expected to achieve an undergraduate degree (2:1 or above). Candidates with Masters degrees or those with practical experience in research or industry are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will benefit from both academic research and collaboration with world-class manufacturing companies.

Funding Notes

Bursary available: £16,000 - £17,000 per year (Tax-free) for 3 years. In addition, the successful candidate will receive a contribution to tuition fees equivalent to the university’s Home rate, currently £4,407, for the duration of their scholarship and travel expenses paid to attend appropriate international conferences and seminars. International applicants will need to pay the remainder tuition fee, currently £9,593, for the duration of their scholarship. This fee is subject to an annual increase. Teaching assistance opportunity is available for this post.
