This exciting PhD opportunity is funded by a leading industry partner and offers the opportunity to work on research projects that will have an impact from both academic and industry perspectives. The main goal of the project is to produce high quality research exploring the effects of CBD in a variety of settings and to facilitate the design of products that optimise exercise performance and recovery, as well as health.

Full Project Detail
Working in collaboration with the supervisory team and industry partner, the successful candidate will undertake a programme of work investigating the effects of CBD administration (potentially through ingestible and topical products) on human physiological/metabolic function and exercise performance/recovery. The project may also extend to other plant-based botanicals/extracts, depending on study findings, but the student will play a major role in the design and direction of the studies undertaken.

Entry requirements
Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in sport and exercise science, human nutrition, human physiology, biochemistry, food science or a related subject. A relevant Master’s degree and/or experience in one or more of the above subjects will be an advantage.

It is also desirable that applicants have the following skills/ experiences:
- A passion for understanding the interaction between nutrition and exercise
- Experience of conducting human research studies, particularly with a focus on exercise and/ or nutrition
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Willingness to work with industry to enhance the effectiveness of nutrition products aimed at exercisers/athletes
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Funding Notes

The studentship is for 3 years and provides a tax-free stipend of £15,285 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. International (non-EU) students may apply however the total value of the studentship will cover the international tuition fee only.
