Project Description

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship within the Rolls-Royce funded ThermoFluid Systems University Technology Centre at the University of Surrey.

The design of sealing technology within a gas turbine engine is critical to the efficiency of modern engines. This project will concentrate on the modelling of labyrinth seals using finite element (FE) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes. The project will be in collaboration with Rolls-Royce and will involve regular meetings with Rolls-Royce stakeholders.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have an upper second (or better) degree in engineering or a related subject. Due to funding restrictions, applicants need to meet EPSRC’s eligibility requirements (

Funding Notes

This 3.5 year PhD studentship will cover a stipend of £19,000 per annum and Home/EU fees.
