PhD Studentship Opportunity in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for adaptive key management for Internet of Things (IoT) services in future mobile networks
This PhD research project will define an AI based adaptive security key management in specific IoT dynamic scenarios such as Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The research will analyse the key management performance in relation to traffic load, and discover any unknown relationships between key management performance and traffic levels. In addition, this project will examine the use of AI to analyse and summarise the features of attacks and provide input to automated key management system. Formal analysis of the project protocols will be conducted including security and privacy features. A subset of the system will be deployed on the 5GIC testbed with the support of Telefonica to gain insight on the practical issues related to large scale system realisation.
The 5G Innovation Centre hosted at the University of Surrey is the world’s first dedicated to the next generation of mobile communication systems and an international hub for telecommunication research and innovation. The Centre collaborates with key ICT service providers, network and device manufacturers and test equipment solution providers to develop innovative solutions and standards for 5G networks.
This project will commence in October 2019 and will last 3 years.
Candidates should hold a first or upper-second class Bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree at distinction level (or equivalent experience/qualifications) in an appropriate discipline.
