PhD Studentship Opportunity in Large massive-MIMO design and Artificial Intelligence aided optimisation

About the Project

Large mMIMO is expected to provide orders-of-magnitude higher area throughput in wireless networks compared to what mMIMO with compact arrays can practically deliver. This project aims to research scalable antenna precoding and combining algorithms for large mMIMO systems (e.g., cell-free MIMO, network MIMO and radio stripes) incorporating new MIMO channel characteristics, including the radiative near-field propagation and the channel spatial non-stationarity, as well as practical fronthaul architectures and capacity constraints. To achieve this goal, we will leverage previous contributions in scalable large-MIMO antenna precoding and combining by integrating soft-decoding and message passing, adaptive modulation, iterative interference cancellation, as well as deep learning.

Entry requirements:
• It is essential to have a MSc (Distinction or equivalent) in Telecommunications or related areas.
• Prefer to have strong track record in peer-reviewed IEEE journal publications.
• Prefer to have background in MIMO signal processing and/or artificial intelligence aided communication systems design.
• If English is not your first language, you will be required to have an IELTS Academic of 6.5 or above (or equivalent), with no sub-test score below 6.
