This Studentship provides a unique opportunity to be part of an initiative which will have a real impact on improving the health and well-being of children and families living in Bradford. The Studentship involves a partnership between the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences and the Born in Bradford research team (an internationally acclaimed applied research programme), from the Bradford Institute for Health Research.

Full Project Detail

The Studentship will involve the development and evaluation of physical activity interventions for children and adolescents living in Bradford. This work will be part of a wider Sport England Bradford Local Delivery Pilot (LDP). The Bradford LDP is an initiative which aims to improve health and wellbeing for children and young people in some of the most deprived communities in Bradford by promoting physical activity using a whole systems approach. Born in Bradford (on behalf of Active Bradford) is one of 12 sites in England chosen to work with Sport England to create innovative solutions to make it easier for communities to access sport and physical activity. This Studentship will be based between Loughborough and Bradford, with data collection taking place in Bradford.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in Sport and Exercise Sciences, Human Biology, Public Health or a related subject. A relevant Master’s degree in Physical Activity and Health, Exercise Physiology, Public Health or a related subject will be an advantage.

Furthermore, it would be desirable for applicants to have experience of working with children and/or adolescents within either school or community settings. A knowledge of, or keen interest in, the use of wearable technologies for measuring and promoting physical activity, implementation science and/or behaviour change would be an advantage.

Funding Notes

This Studentship is funded by the Bradford Institute for Health Research. For UK/EU applicants, the studentship provides a tax-free stipend of £14,777 per annum plus tuition fees for the duration of the studentship – 3 years full-time. Due to funding restrictions, the studentship is only open to UK/EU applicants.
