About the Project

This project is about an innovative approach towards the design of steel that can withstand repeated impact and abrasion, in the context of mineral comminution. The project will involve the calculation and detailed characterisation of microstructure as a function of chemical composition and heat treatment. The team at QMUL has considerable experience in such quantitative methods and Molycop (the industrial sponsors) have experts and equipment to help the project. 

Fully funded Studentship which includes a 3 year stipend (set at £20,622 for 2023/24) and tuition fees

Eligibility

  • The minimum requirement for this studentship opportunity is a good Honours degree (minimum 2(i) honours or equivalent) or MSc/MRes in a relevant discipline.
  • If English is not your first language, you will require a valid English certificate equivalent to IELTS 6.5+ overall with a minimum score of 6.0 in Writing and 5.5 in all sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking).
  • Candidates are expected to start from Sept/Oct 2023
