Polymer synthesis and self-assembly


Project Description

An industry-funded studentship is available in the groups of Prof. Andrew Dove and Prof. Rachel O’Reilly at the University of Birmingham to study for a PhD that is focused on the development of polyester-based nanoparticles. The projects are across a range of areas that the group are interested:

• Ring-opening polymerisation of novel functional monomers
• Polymerisation-induced self-assembly of degradable polymers
• Crystallisation-driven self-assembly of degradable polymer amphiphiles
• Synthesis and characterisation of novel nanoparticle assemblies using advanced scattering and microscopy techniques

Projects will have a balance of synthesis, self-assembly and characterization and will be ideal for students that are interested in a fundamental research project with an applied goal who want to work in recently refurbished lab space with world-class state-of-the-art facilities.

Funding Notes

This studentship is only open to UK or EU nationals. The successful applicants should possess a good (1st or 2.1 UK or equivalent) degree in chemistry from a well-regarded institution.
