Predictive modelling and forecasting for global health logistics

Project Description

The successful candidate will be enrolled on the PhD in Business and Management at Cardiff Business School.

Ensuring life-saving medicines are delivered to those who need them requires far more than mon-ey and scientific progress. Accurate modelling and forecasting systems can assist critical decisions that drive policy making, funding, research, and development in global health systems. Traditional approaches are using historical time series of consumption, this is not very accurate as data in de-veloping countries are messy. We investigate how to improve forecast accuracy of global health logistics by focusing on the number of patients, related diseases and medical staff turnover across humanitarian organisations. This project may have implications for humanitarian organisations such as the International committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Applicant profile:
The ideal candidate has a specialist Master Degree in Operations Research, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Management Science or related subjects from an internationally re-nowned University. Applicants with a strong first degree will also be considered. The ideal applicant has the motivation and ability to develop industry links and conduct fieldwork; is keen to conduct research on quantitative methods, modelling and operations research approaches. Ideally, the candidate has previous academic knowledge and/or work experience in the area of global health, humanitarian and/or modelling and forecasting.
