About the Project

Creativity and problem solving are often seen in lists of top desirable skills. It is therefore important to understand these from a psychological perspective. Creative problem solving occurs through insight (eureka) which in the main has been researched in terms of positive ‘Aha’ moments, when a solution pops into one’s head as-if out of the blue. An exciting new avenue for research identifies problem finding, Uh-oh moments of insight. This project aims to further understand Uh-oh moments alongside Ahas, in everyday experience. Due to its exploratory nature, there is scope to take a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods approach. Whilst grounded within cognitive psychology there may be opportunities for the right candidate to take a more applied perspective, for example exploring Uh-oh moments within the workplace or educational context.

PhD available from January 2025.
