Project Description

This research project is on designing the process and material for 3D printing of the wax objects used in the investment casting process of automotive and aerospace parts. The project may have to mail following objectives and depending on the applicants background one of the two objectives may receive more focus (if the candidates are from mechanical and manufacturing engineering or similar backgrounds then the first objective is the main one; and if they are from material science, polymer or petrochemical engineering or chemical engineering the second objective becomes the main focus of this research).
Aims and Objectives: The objectives of the research include:
1- Optimise the 3D printing process to improve printing speed, dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality of the wax material printed objects
2- Design new polymer material or improve the existing wax material to enhance printing speed, dimensional accuracy and surface finish of the printed objects and to reduce the cost of consumable material.

Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing, Product Design, Business and Management or Computer/software engineering, with some understanding and experience in manufacturing industries and resource planning
