About the Project

MSc Research Opportunity leading to a PhD.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time position as an MSc Student at the University of Galway, Ireland. The research topic is: Ultrashort laser direct writing of electically conductive tissue scaffolds.

The opportunity is centered on the fabrication and characterisation of a scalable manufacturing process in laser direct writing of electrically conductive scaffolds for future potential use in the regeneration of heart tissue. The research will centre on understanding the photopolymerisation technique and on investigating how the structures this can produce can lead to the required mechanical properties of the tissue scaffolds. Funding is provided under the Cardiac Oganoid Systems Partnership supported by Science Foundation Ireland.

The successful applicant will have studied Applied Physics, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science or a closely related discipline. A good knowledge or demonstrated awareness of light material interactions , material science and engineering are desirable. Experience in using a range of technologies/techniques for materials characterisation would be an advantage. Candidates should have a first-class undergraduate a BEng or BSc degree. The ideal candidate will have experience of laboratory work.

This 18-month funded MSc scholarship is open to EU or UK applicants only.
