About the Project

Quantum technologies are expected to offer new computational and communication services. In particular, in order for future quantum computers to be able to talk to each other, new quantum communications protocols need to be devised and implemented. This will help us maximise our computational capacities by employing distributed quantum computing techniques. At short distances, this corresponds to an equivalent of a quantum data centre, whereas, in long distances, this represents what is known as the quantum Internet. The project explores several architectures at these two extremes and seeks for practical solutions that can offer tangible benefits in the performance of certain quantum applications in the next 5-10 years. The project would be theory based but will benefit from the input from experimental collaborators.
