We seek a Research and Innovation Graduate to undertake research and innovation activities as part of the Science in Industry Research Centre (SIRC), at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, under the supervision of academic staff within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The university has recently been funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to establish SIRC, which supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs) based in specific areas of the West Midlands to carry out research and innovation projects in the fields of Biotechnology, Polymers and Life Sciences, by providing access to the expertise of specialist staff and the world class resources at the University.

You will engage with local SMEs while concurrently undertaking independent research led by the academic supervisor towards a specific research question (see attached documentation). Following appointment, you will also have the opportunity to register for a PhD award, with partial waiver of fees by the University. Please note that it will not be possible for the University to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for the successful candidate as this role does not meet the minimum salary threshold set by UK Visas and Immigration. The successful candidate will therefore need to be eligible to work in the UK or have limited leave to remain in the UK and associated right to work for the duration of their employment with the University, in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual keen to embark on a career in science research. You will have a good undergraduate degree (e.g. BSc Honours or Masters degree with a 2.1 or equivalent in Microbiology, Biomedical Science or a related field). You are expected to have some previous relevant laboratory experience and be keen to further develop your expertise in life sciences. As part of the process of selecting candidates for this role, we will ask short-listed applicants to submit a research proposal that addresses the research question “Development of novel formulation of Disulfiram-zinc compound for pancreatic cancer treatment” as set out in the attached document ‘Research Question RQ1-WW’.
