Dr Thomas Torode  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (UK Students Only)

About the Project

Seagrass meadows are vital for the health of our oceans, but are in threatened by climate change and human activities. Current seagrass restoration techniques are limited by the quantity and quality of seagrass seeds that can be harvested and re-planted. This project will apply advanced plant tissue culture techniques to overcome this limitation, and allow high-throughput restoration of seagrass meadows. This will be used to design strategies for large-scale seagrass restoration, improving the marine environment, sequestering carbon, and to further out understanding of seagrass ecophysiology.

This position is for a fully funded MPhil scholarship in restoration of seagrass meadows with the possibility to transfer into the PhD programme after the first year.

Candidates must hold at least an upper-2nd class Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Plant Sciences, or related subject.
